Gold is most commonly seen in a yellow or white color, but sometimes it is seen in a rose or green color. Gold is mixed with alloys such as copper, zinc, nickel, and silver to give it different strengths, colors, and durability. The purity of gold is measured in karats, which tells us how many parts out of 24 are gold. For example, 10 karat gold means that 10 out of 24 parts are gold and 14 out of 24 parts are alloy.

Silver is in high abundance making it more affordable than platinum or gold. Sterling silver is made up of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. Even though sterling silver tarnishes, it holds a much higher polish than any other metal. Tarnish can be removed but overall silver requires much more maintenance than what the other metals require.
